约翰·伯特伦·菲利普斯（John Bertram Phillips，1906年9月16日—1982年7月21日），英格兰圣公会牧师，圣经翻译者、作家。他被世人所知的是他翻译的《菲利普斯现代英语新约》。
生平
[编辑]菲利普斯出生于薩里郡巴恩斯（现属泰晤士河畔列治文區），他就读于剑桥大学伊曼纽尔学院，并获得荣誉学士学位。在经过培训后，他在1930年成为英格蘭教會的牧师。[1]
菲利普斯在伦敦The Good Shepherd教堂传教。他发现到钦定版圣经难以被年轻人们理解。时逢二战期间伦敦大轰炸，在防空洞避难的菲利普斯开始将《新约》使用现代英语再次翻译，首先是《歌羅西書》。而菲利普斯所翻译的版本确实可以使年轻人们更好理解，这鼓励他继续翻译《新约》的其他部分。[2]
战后菲利普斯的部分翻译作品开始出版，首先是1947年《Letters to Young Churches》，当时得到了作家C·S·路易斯的支持。[2]此后在1952年出版《福音书》，1955年出版《使徒行传》并重新命题为《The Young Church in Action》，1957年出版《启示录》。最终在1958年出版了合集《现代英语新约》，这部新约在1961年编修并再版，1972年再版，让菲利普斯因此闻名。
除了《新约》外，菲利普斯也翻译了部分《旧约》，1963年他出版了《以賽亞書》1-39、《何西阿書》、《阿摩司書》和《彌迦書》，取名为《Four Prophets: Amos, Hosea, First Isaiah, Micah: A Modern Translation from the Hebrew》，但他没有继续翻译旧约。
